What AT&T Internet Can Do for Your Texas Home

Great food, football, and friendly people in every direction. Call it a cliche but you know it’s true—everything is bigger (and better) in Texas. Outsiders looking in pretend they don’t get it. But one bite of Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ and their opinion changes real quick (smoked carnitas with tomatillo habanero salsa. Need we say more?).

If there’s one thing Texans love more than food, it’s football. Weekends are dedicated to cheering on your favorite teams from local high schools all the way up to the Dallas Cowboys. Even when life gets in the way of standing on the sidelines, fast internet from AT&T lets you keep tabs on the score wherever you go.

Factor in an abundance of jobs, beautiful landscapes, and a lower cost of living to boot, and next thing you know, you’ve got a Lone Star Tattoo on your arm, Texas flag on your porch, and a deep-set curiosity about what any other state has to offer. ‘Cuz when it comes down to it, if anyone doesn’t love good food, football, or warm weather—then bless their heart. They can stay nice and miserable right where they are.

Texas Leads the Way in Smart City Tech

When it comes to improving the life of its residents, Texas is all about it. By increasing access to broadband internet, Wi-Fi, public transit, and solar energy, the state is paving the way for increased economic growth and better quality of life nationwide—two defining factors that make an ordinary city "smart."

Notable Smart City Factors:

icon

Connectivity

Connectivity

Internet connectivity is a must for any smart city. Broadband internet access opens doors for better opportunities, increased global awareness, and more education and innovation.

icon

Transportation

Transportation

With better access to public transportation comes reduced traffic congestion, less car accidents, increased fuel efficiency, and more economic growth.

icon

Green Infrastructure

Green Infrastructure

Many cities in Texas are “going green” with infrastructure. Greater access to electric charging stations encourages more residents to opt for eco-friendly cars, and the renewable nature of solar energy makes homes more sustainable and shrinks carbon footprints.

How the Cities Stack Up:

Austin

Austin has the highest rating (76%) for percentage of population with access to broadband internet. Get the details.

rating icon

Plano

Plano has the highest rating (98%) for percentage of population with at least one computing device. Explore the full report.

Fort Worth

Fort Worth has 100% access to all four modes of public transportation, and ranked #6 overall in access to broadband internet. Check out the details.

Dallas ranked #4 and Irving came in at #5.

Methodology

To determine which Texas cities are the smartest, we compared the largest cities in the state across three weighted categories: Connectivity, Transportation, and Green Infrastructure.

Connectivity (weight: 50): % of population with at least one computing device and access to broadband internet.

Transportation (weight: 25): modes of public transportation available (bus, train, public bikes and scooters).

Green Infrastructure (weight: 25): solar Installations & number of electric car charging stations per 100,000 residents.

As the largest state in the US, it can be tough to know which Texas cities—much less which Texas attractions—to prioritize when you travel to the Lone Star State. San Antonio offers jaw-dropping Spanish-inspired architecture, Austin has a scenic river walk and praise-worthy music scene, El Paso has some of the best Mexican food in the country—the list goes on.

But what if you want to experience Texas a little differently? What if you want to go off-road and visit attractions that are less touristy? Lucky for you, we’ve identified six of Texas’s “unknown spots”—to help you get away from the mainstream attractions.

Methodology

To determine which states rank highest for quality of digital life, All Home Connections’ data team analyzed four key metrics:

  • Internet affordability (25%). This factor measured the average cost of the internet vs. average personal income in each state.
  • Internet quality (25%). This data point analyzed the average internet speed in each state.
  • Electronic infrastructure (25%). For this metric, we analyzed the percentage of broadband coverage by state.
  • Accessibility to computers and tablets (25%). For the final data point, we determined the percentage of children in a household with a desktop, laptop, or tablet as of 2019.

The data for each category came from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, the U.S. Census, Internet World Statistics, and the National Center for Education Statistics.
