Even the Hilton Garden Inn Brentwood is constructed in a Civil War mansion dating back to 1838. Other noteworthy Civil War battle sites include Carnton Plantation, Lotz House, and Carter House. The Franklin Theatre (built in the thirties) and Gray's on Maine (once a drug store, now a restaurant) are equally worth a stop.
If you're in it for the food, Franklin does not disappoint. Get a 100 layer doughnut at Five Daughters Bakery, biscuits and gravy at Country Boy Restaurant, and of course whole hog BBQ at Martin's BBQ joint. The historic H Clark Distillery has incredible gin and bourbon to wash it all down. Franklin is also home to several of award-winning Jason McConnell's restaurants, including Cork & Cow, Red Pony, and 55 South.
Music lovers can't get enough of the Village of Leiper's Fork, where many celebrities like Justin Timberlake and Winona Judd have played. There you can get your hands on a vintage 1930s Gibson mandolin or 1994 Martin B28 guitar (available on site to play, but not to buy), and try your hand at your favorite song. On other evenings, treat yourself to a new vinyl at Luna Record Shop, catch a show at Artisan Guitars, or peruse the vintage instruments on display in the Pickin' Corner at Serenite Maison.
